Choose a rental for your riding experience, comfort and planned use. Engine size is one part of the decision; transmission, weight, fit and the shop’s restrictions matter too.
Automatic scooters for everyday journeys
If you are already comfortable riding an automatic scooter, this category is a place to start for trips around Chiang Mai. Look at the actual listing rather than assuming every model offers the same brakes, storage or equipment.
Check that you can comfortably support and manoeuvre the bike at a stop. A familiar model name is not enough: model year and specification can differ. Ask the shop about a feature you need rather than inferring it from a stock photograph.
Maxi-scooters, dual-sport and classic bikes
Maxi-scooters can offer a different seating position and more space, but the extra size may make parking and slow manoeuvres more demanding. Compare the actual machine, not only the larger engine number.
Dual-sport listings may use manual gears and a taller seat. They are not permission to ride off road: the shop’s rental terms determine where the bike may go. Classic and premium is a broad category, so check transmission, weight and equipment individually.

Match the rental to a realistic itinerary
