Scooter rental insurance in Chiang Mai
Reviewed 24 September 2026 · RideLanna, Chiang Mai
The word insurance is not enough. Before renting, identify what protects the scooter, what covers damage to other people or property, what covers your medical costs and which excess or exclusions apply.
Separate the different kinds of protection
A shop policy may address damage to or theft of the rental bike without paying your medical bills or every third-party claim. Your travel insurer may also impose its own licence, helmet, engine-size and activity conditions.
Read the specific listing and written rental terms. Do not treat a marketing label such as basic, full or comprehensive as a complete explanation of cover.
- Damage to the rental bike
- Theft of the rental bike
- Third-party injury or property
- Rider and passenger medical costs
Understand excess, exclusions and documents
The excess is the amount or potential share described by a policy before or alongside insurer payment; it is not the same as a refundable deposit. Ask how the excess applies and whether different events have different limits.
Common policy questions include licence validity, authorised riders, helmets, alcohol, unpaved roads, geographic limits and reporting deadlines. Only the actual policy can answer them for your booking.
Know what to do after an incident
Save the shop's contact, the policy instructions and your travel insurer's assistance number. If an incident occurs, prioritise immediate safety and medical help, then follow the required reporting steps as soon as reasonably possible.
RideLanna can record a booking problem, but it does not act as the insurer or decide liability. Payments, claims and any refundable deposit remain governed by the shop's terms and relevant policy.
Quick answers
Does every RideLanna rental include full insurance?
Do not assume so. Coverage and optional products depend on the listing and shop. Read the specific terms.
Does scooter insurance cover my hospital costs?
A bike-damage policy may not provide personal medical cover. Check your travel or health insurer separately.
Is the deposit my maximum liability?
Not necessarily. Deposit and liability are different concepts. Read the agreement, policy excess and exclusions.
