For several weeks in Chiang Mai, compare the whole rental arrangement: the exact duration, maintenance, deposit and what happens if your plans change. A monthly label alone does not define any of those terms.

Use exact dates instead of a generic monthly price
Start by checking the shop’s maximum rental length. Some shops accept only daily or weekly bookings during high season; those listings cannot be booked for a month. Longer stays are offered only when the listing permits them.
RideLanna does not set one monthly price for all shops or models. Each offer starts with a daily rate and any duration discounts chosen by the shop. Thirty days is not the same as four seven-day weeks.
A weekly discount may apply from 7 days, a fortnightly discount from 14, and a monthly discount from either 28 or 30. The highest eligible percentage applies to the bike rental without stacking. A 28-day stay does not qualify for an offer whose monthly threshold is 30 days.
For example only: a 250 THB daily rate with a 20% discount at 30 days gives a 6,000 THB bike rental for 30 days. This is an illustration of the calculation, not a current offer; extras, delivery and a refundable deposit are separate.
Agree the maintenance plan
Ask when the bike needs a service, where it must go and who pays for routine work. A replacement bike or free repairs should not be assumed unless the shop agrees to them.
Save the breakdown contact, report warning lights or unusual noises promptly and stop riding if the bike may be unsafe. Get the shop’s agreement before authorising repairs.

Check where and how you may ride
A long rental does not automatically include unlimited distance or permission to ride every route. Explain any plans for Pai, the Mae Hong Son Loop or other trips before booking.
Read the geographic and use restrictions, confirm that your licence and experience suit the vehicle, and check current weather and road information before leaving. Your shop’s approval does not remove road risks.
Budget beyond the rental itself
Keep the refundable deposit separate from the cost of hiring the bike. Ask how it is paid, when it is returned and what evidence supports any deduction.
Delivery and collection depend on the shop and your address. If you move accommodation, agree whether the return location can change and whether there is an additional charge. Fuel, equipment and late-return terms also matter over a long stay.
Request extensions early
The same bike may already be promised to another rider after your return date. Contact the shop before the rental ends; an extension is only agreed when the new dates and total are confirmed.
Keep the updated agreement and check how the new duration affects the price. Do not assume a second month receives an extra discount or that an early return is refundable.
Renting versus buying
Compare the expected rental total with the purchase price, maintenance, insurance, ownership paperwork and possible resale loss. There is no reliable universal break-even month.
If you consider buying, verify transfer requirements and ownership documents with the relevant authorities. Avoid treating a seller’s price or resale promise as a guaranteed saving.

Does a month mean 28 or 30 days?
The listing specifies whether its monthly discount starts at 28 or 30 days. The quote still uses your actual rental duration.
Does maintenance come free?
Only if included in the shop’s terms. Confirm service arrangements, repair costs and any replacement-bike policy before booking.
Can I extend the rental?
Only after the shop accepts the new dates and price. Ask early and keep the updated confirmation.
Can I take the bike on a long loop?
Check the shop’s permitted area, distance limits and vehicle suitability first. A monthly booking is not automatic permission for every route.
